Ten Things All Students Go Through - And How Essential Oils can Help

Sarah Nagus

The life of a student is unique. You’re not dependent anymore but can any of us say we’re really independent yet? Student life comes with an array of obstacles and stressors… Essential oils can help! These are the 10 things all students go through and what essential oils can do to give relief

1. Homesickness

As many of you may know, scent is one of the most nostalgic senses. Aromatherapy can be used to take you back to a place or time. Choose an essential oil that reminds you of home to diffuse or wear on days when you’re missing your friends, family or your hometown.

2. Hangovers

After a night out with friends you may wake up feeling less than 100%. For nausea, use doTerra’s signature blend: DigestZen (ZenGest) or ginger. Either of these can be used topically or ingested. If the issue is a headache, peppermint oil on the back of your neck or on your temples is a lifesaver!

3. Mental Health

Your mental health is a serious issue. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, the first thing you should do is talk to a doctor. However, essential oils can be a helpful tool for these as well. Citrusy smells like wild orange or lemon can be amazing uplifters if you’re feeling depressed while lavender is a calming oil often used to soothe anxiety.

4. Exam Stress

When it comes down to the wire at exam time, the last thing you need is extra unneeded stress. Diffuse Balance while studying to put your nerves at bay.

5. Focusing

There’s nothing worse than sitting down to write an essay and having the constant urge to check your social media, snack or talk with your roommates. For those moments where you just can’t focus, try doTerra’s In Tune. This blend will put your mind on track.

6. Sleep

It seems as though the nights where we really need our sleep are the nights where our brains move a-mile-a-minute. For a light and calming bedtime oil, try doTerra’s Serenity blend. If you need something more heavy duty, Vetiver will knock you out without fail.

7. Motivation

This may seem like a no-brainer… but if you’re lacking motivation, don’t forget to try doTerra’s Motivate! Especially closer to the end of the school year, it can be hard to push yourself to get out there and be productive. This oil can help!

8. Weight Loss

Let’s face it… between grabbing late night pizza with your roommates and binging on study snacks, sometimes that ‘freshman 15’ doesn’t stay in freshman year. If you want to kick start your weight loss journey, try the Smart & Sassy (also called Slim & Sassy) blend in your tea or water. This will boost your metabolism, curb your cravings and it has a pleasant aroma, too!

9. Skin Care

All of the above mentioned stressors can often lead to unwanted blemishes and imperfections on your skin. DoTerra has an HD Clear Skin Care line that includes lotions and washes using essential oils that can help alleviate any problem areas your skin might have.

10. Don’t forget to treat yourself!

At the end of the day, you deserve a reward. Cooking and baking with essential oils is not only a fun activity but it also results in something delicious for you to share with your roommates (or not.) See the simple recipe below for some delicious Chocolate Orange Cupcakes with Peppermint Frosting!
